Itinerary
📍 Day 1: Mekele – Afdera – Erta Ale Base Camp
- Morning departure from Mekele in 4×4 vehicles
- Drive through the desert, passing salt lakes and Afar settlements
- Lunch en route at a local stop
- Arrive at Erta Ale base camp by late afternoon
- After early dinner, begin 3-hour night trek to Erta Ale summit (with camels carrying supplies)
- Overnight at the crater rim under the stars, watching the lava lake
📍 Day 2: Erta Ale – Hamed Ela
- Sunrise view at the volcano crater
- Descend back to base camp
- Breakfast and rest
- Drive across the desert to Hamed Ela, passing Afar villages and mirage-filled plains

- Overnight at Hamed Ela in basic open-air camp
📍 Day 3: Dallol – Salt Flats – Lake Assale
- Early morning drive to Dallol
