Itinerary

📍 Day 1: Mekele – Afdera – Erta Ale Base Camp

• Morning departure from Mekele in 4×4 vehicles
• Drive through the desert, passing salt lakes and Afar settlements
• Lunch en route at a local stop
• Arrive at Erta Ale base camp by late afternoon
• After early dinner, begin 3-hour night trek to Erta Ale summit (with camels carrying supplies)
• Overnight at the crater rim under the stars, watching the lava lake

📍 Day 2: Erta Ale – Hamed Ela

• Sunrise view at the volcano crater
• Descend back to base camp
• Breakfast and rest
• Drive across the desert to Hamed Ela, passing Afar villages and mirage-filled plains
• Enjoy a beautiful desert sunset
• Overnight at Hamed Ela in basic open-air camp

📍 Day 3: Dallol – Salt Flats – Lake Assale

• Early morning drive to Dallol
